Reverberating dhols, bhangra, feasts marks Baisakhi
Resounding beats of 'dhols', joyous performances of bhangra and elaborate feasts marked Baisakhi celebrations on the advent of harvest season in Punjab and other parts of the country on Thursday.
Farmers, loaded with cash this time, are in mood and spirit to enjoy the fruits of their hard work as they prayed to the god for good produce.
Across Punjab, people woke up early and visited temples and gurdwaras, where langars or community feasts were arranged as a part of charity on the day.
Loud cries of "Jatta aayi Baisakhi" reverberated as men and women dressed in colourful outfits moved to their field for the first harvest of the season.
In villages, performances of energetic bhangra and gidda by men and women respectively marked the occasion.
People exchanged greetings with friends, neighbours and relatives as they relished the best of famous Punjabi cuisine.
Colourful Baisakhi fairs were organised at several places with people going on shopping, eating and recreational spree.
In Jammu and Kashmir, far away from their home, Army and paramilitary jawans danced on beats of dhols and displayed Sikh warrior skills to celebrate the festival. Villagers of border areas also joined them in their happiness.
