Revised food bill mulls 5kg for each, 1 category
The Union food ministry has proposed some major changes to Sonia Gandhi’s pet project, the National Food Security Bill, the passage of which has been delayed for long due to differences between the ministry and policy-makers. The ministry’s alternative approach to the bill, also called Plan B, suggests the beneficiaries of food security should be identified as a single category instead of classifying them as general and priority groups.
Apparently to cool down the opposition from state governments to the existing food bill, Plan B allows the state governments and Union Territories “to evolve their own criteria for determining the excluded category and for identification of the people (to be benefited by the scheme)”.

Mukesh Ranjan
New Delhi, July 2
In a bid to speed up vacation of additional spectrum by the defence establishment, the government is all set to approve `5,000 crores in extra funding, over and above `9,175 crores already cleared, for a dedicated alternative communications network for the Army, Navy and Air Force.
This is aimed at increasing the availability of spectrum for civilian use. This should also allow the government to earn more revenue, force once spectrum is freed, it will be able to auction this to telecom companies.
