RJD brainstorms on Bihar debacle
Keen to rebuild itself after its worst-ever electoral debacle, the RJD on Tuesday set out to analyse the reasons behind its fall from grace in the Bihar Assembly polls and explore ways to reinvent its methods and messages for winning back the masses.
At the party’s introspection and brainstorming session in Patna, senior RJD leaders, including party boss Lalu Prasad Yadav, gave a patient hearing to about 40 leaders who lost the Assembly polls describing their assessment of the reasons of the party’s rout. The two-day session, which began at former chief minister Rabri Devi’s residence with all former MPs and MLAs in attendance, also saw some senior leaders stressing the virtues of secular parties working together.
Frank expression of opinions, never before a feature in any of the RJD’s meetings in presence of the party chief, was the hallmark of the marathon meeting that began in the morning and ended in the evening.

Cong justifies decision to contest alone

New Delhi
Dec. 21: Despite the disaster it faced in the Bihar Assembly polls, the Congress justified the strategy of going it alone in the key northern state.
“The lessons of Bihar are not essentially disheartening. The party took a bold and correct decision of reviving the party in a state where it once was a dominant force,” the party said in the latest issue of its mouthpiece Congress Sandesh.
