RJD loses national party status

Five political parties lost their status as state parties on Friday, according to the Election Commission. They are the JD(U), SP, PMK, MDMK and Arun-achal Congress Party. Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal lost its status as a national party following its poor performance in the last Jharkhand elections.
These parties can retain their symbols, but become ineligible to use public broadcasters like AIR and Doordarshan for poll-eve broadcasts.
