robbers die after jumping from a moving train
Three robbers, who allegedly tried to loot a passenger, died after they jumped off a running train on Sunday in an attempt to escape, police said.
The incident took place in the Howrah-Hyderabad East Coast Express near Pendurthy at 3.40 AM near Chintalagraharam in Pendurthy mandal of Visakhapatnam district, they said.
The robbers had tried to snatched a B-1 AC coach passenger Santilal Jain, an MBA student, by snatching his bag, Superintendent of Railway Police M Kantha Rao told reporters.
"When Santilal resisted their attempt, they inflicted knife injuries on his leg and hands. The robbers, who noticed that some passengers were trying to nab them, immediately jumped out of the running train to escape," Rao said.
Two of them K V Dayaram and P K Mohanty, who belong to Maharashtra, died on the spot and their partner, who sustained serious injuries, died on way to hospital, the Railway SP said, adding that efforts were on to establish the identity of the third person.
Jain was later shifted to a private hospital in Visakhpatnam and his condition is out of danger, he added. Police have recovered three knives, cellphones and PAN cards from the site. Their bodies were sent for post-mortem and further investigations are on, Kantha Rao said.
