Rosaiah steps down, K.K. Reddy new CM
Assembly Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will replace Mr K. Rosaiah as CM of Andhra Pradesh. Mr Rosaiah quit suddenly on Wednesday following directions from the Congress leadership. Mr Reddy will be sworn in on Thursday morning.
Te succession was very smooth. Without much effort, the team of Central leaders led by Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee brought unanimity in the Congress Legislature Party to leave the choice of a new leader to the party chief. After obtaining a single-line resolution authorising Mrs Sonia Gandhi to appoint the new leader, the Central team announced Mr K.K. Reddy as the new CM. As a formality, the team held one-on-one discussions with a few MLAs. Though Mr Rosaiah claimed he offered to step down in view of his “advancing age”, it is known that the high command asked him to quit as it was unhappy over his inability to handle challenges.
