Royals to file FIR, cautious BCCI orders internal probe
The Indian cricket board stuck to the rulebook in not imposing a life ban yet on tainted trio S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila for alleged involvement in IPL spot-fixing. Instead, it decided at its working committee meeting here Sunday to hold an internal inquiry first (led by its anti-corruption chief Ravi Sawani), and act on its findings.
The Rajasthan Royals, the trio’s employer, said it will file a police complaint in Jaipur.
It is learnt if the BCCI acted swiftly to ban the cricketers, it could have been open to challenge in court.
BCCI president N. Srinivasan said the board will not hesitate to act “ruthlessly” if the inquiry found the players guilty. Mr Srinivasan denied the BCCI had failed to act despite earlier warnings on corruption, and said the “greed of the players” was to blame.
