Rs 1 lakh for info on each accused

The CBI on Thursday announced a prize money of Rs 1 lakh each on Bapi Mahato, Umakanta Mahato and Asit Mahato declaring them as three prime accused in the Gyaneswari train mishap that claimed 148 lives.

“We are announcing a prize money of Rs 1 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of the three prime accused Umakanta Mahato, Bapi Mahato and Asit Mahato in the Gyaneswari train sabotage case,” informed ADG (M&C) and spokesperson, CBI, Harsh Bhal over the phone from Delhi.
The CBI has issued posters that has the picture of the trio and other details including their father’s name and address. The posters issued in English, Bengali and local (Alchiki) languages will be displayed at prominent places across the state, claimed CBI sources.
Interestingly, this is the first time that Asit Mahato, the official spokesperson and convenor of the Maoist-backed tribal organisation People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities, has been directly named as an accused in the case.
Sources revealed that the CBI has found clinching evidence against Asit as the mastermind. The CBI posters claimed that any information regarding the trio can be given at the following numbers: 09674433351, 09051444405, 09051061000, 033-23596119; Fax number: 033-23348713 and e-mail: hobsckol@cbi.gov.in. Relative information can also be directly conveyed to the special crime branch office in Kolkata at DF Block, Salt Lake, CGO Complex, A-wing. It may be noted that till now, two persons — Khagen Mahato and Sameer Mahato — have been arrested in connection with this case.
The probe at present, is being carried out by a joint investigation team (JIT) which was constituted by the director of CBI on Wednesday. The team comprises three officers of CBI, three officers of state police, two officers of the Railway Protection Force, one officer of the railway board and two forensic experts. The team is being headed by joint-director, CBI, Keshav Kumar.
