Vijayawada: The APSRTC is all set to fleece the passengers during Sankranti festival holidays by collecting additional fares in the name of special services.
The RTC authorities are planning to operate 50 special services to Rayalas-eema region on January 9 as the junior colleges declared holidays for the festival. The officials will collect one-and-half fare in the special services. As thousands of students are studying in corporate colleges in Vijayawada, reservation for 45 special services was already completed.
The officials are planning to introduce 60 special services to Hyderabad on January 14, 100 special services on January 15 and 120 buses on January 16. The fare for special super luxury service to Hyderabad is fixed at rs 392 against the normal fare of Rs 265.
As the reservation in trains is not available, majority of the passengers are forced to depend on RTC services to reach their destinations during festival holidays.
A passenger bound for Hyderabad, Mr K. Bhask-ara Rao, opined that it would be difficult to bear the additional fares for the entire family members visiting their native places for the festival.
He expressed concern over the additional fare being collected by both the RTC and private operators.
The RTC operates 250 regular services daily to Hyderabad including 40 AC services of Garuda, Vennela and Indra.
The occupancy rate in Hyderabad-based buses incre-ased recently with the opening of four-lane National Highway between Vijayawada and Hyderabad and the journey time is also cut short by two hours.
However the passengers are burdened with three more toll gates charges in Hyderabad route in addition to the existing toll gate at Keesara.
The RTC regional manager, Mr Gopinath Reddy, said that they will operate additional services to meet the festival rush.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
