RTI activist to file complaint
The RTI activist Akhil Gogoi who has launched a crusade against the âcorruptâ Congress led government in Assam, on Saturday announced to lodge a formal complaint against high-profile minister Himanta Biswa Sarm for violating the model code of conduct.
Regretting that the opposition is afraid of taking on Congress minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who is behaving like mafia, secretary of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti Akhil Gogoi told reporters, âIt it the duty of the opposition to file complaints against the minister for his show of muscle and money power while filing his nomination papers on Friday.â He said, âWe are surprised as to why a suo moto case was not registered against the minister by the returning officer.â Asking the CEC to use modified EVM machine of post 2006 elections, he said, âWe suspect that old EVMs may be tempered with. We believe that Congress party won 2006 assembly elections by tampering the EVM machine at state governmentâs PSU Amtron, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of servicing and repairing of the EVMs.â
He said that they have asked the CEC to use only modified EVM machine procured after 2006.
The RTI activist also pointed out that election commission should ensure that people could exercise their franchise without fear and favour. âWe have noticed in Bodoalnad Territorial Council area and constituencies of high-profile ministers like Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rockybul Hussain where large scale rigging takes place in every elections.
Even voters are not allowed to come out. âWe are observing as to what steps the CEC is going to take to stop this menace,â said Mr Gogoi.
