RTL: not a 2g beneficiary or conspirator
Reliance Telecom Limited (RTL), accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, on Monday told the Delhi high court that no case of criminal conspiracy is made out against it in the multi-crore scam as it was neither a beneficiary of any telecom license nor was it part of any kind of conspiracy to acquire the same.
Senior advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, appearing for RTL, contended before Justice M.L. Mehta that it had been wrongly alleged by the CBI that RTL, which was barred by the guidelines of the department of telecommunications from app-lying for the new Unified Access Serv-ices Licenses, floated Swan Telecom Ltd. for the purpose of illegally acquiring the licenses to operate 2G services.
“The company was never a beneficiary of any license awarded to any firm. Even before the licenses were given, the management of Swan Telecom was transferred to D.B. Realty (belonging to co-accused in the case Shahid Balwa and Vinod Goenka),” the counsel said.
