Rupee climbs up, Sensex rises too

The rupee recovered smartly on Thursday, posting its biggest single-day gain since January 1998 after the RBI opened a special foreign exchange swap window to meet the daily dollar needs of domestic oil companies. It closed the day at 66.55 against the dollar, compared to 68.80 on Wednesday.
The equity market also showed some resilience, with the Sensex surging 404.89 points (2.25 per cent) to close at 18,401.04; while the Nifty climbed 124.05 points (2.35 per cent) to end the day at 5,409.05.
