Rural ministry to monitor, grade schemes
In order to strengthen the monitoring of its programmes like flagship MGNREGA, the rural development ministry is planning to allow the national-level monitors (panel of retired officers who visit districts) to grade the districts on how those schemes are being implementing there.
As per the plan, the NLMs will grade implementation of the programmes like flagship Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, PradhanMantri Gram Sadak Yojna, Indira Awas Yojna, Integrated Watershed Management Programme, Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme and the Total Sanitation Campaign in each district they visit.
There are reports of MGNREGA funds being misused in the states.
The grading may be done on achievement of physical targets and financial targets separately.
