SAD, Cong warm up for upcoming Punjab polls
With Assembly elections just a few months away, political kabaddi has started in Punjab. Both Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are warming up to tough political battle to hold the reins of power for the next five years. The Opposition Congress on Tuesday started its month-long Punjab Bachao Yarta, which is led by former chief minister and now Punjab state Congress president Amarinder Singh.
Setting the tone of the election campaign at a rally at Talwandi Sabo to mark the beginning of the yatra, Capt. Amarinder Singh asked the people to change the “dictatorial regime of the Badals to safeguard the future of the generations to come.” Raising the rhetoric, PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh advised the Congress workers to pick up lathis against the Akalis and hit them twice if they they to hit them once.
Capt. Amarinder Singh said, “I have a dream to see a prosperous, progressive and drug free Punjab. Where there would be no unemployment and people are not indebted to the extremes of bankruptcy.”
In a scathing attack on the Badals, he pointed out; they have grabbed Punjab’s resources and made billions of rupees. He asked Mr Badal to explain how he made so much money to build seven star luxury hotels in Gurgaon.
Touching the raw chord of the people of southern Punjab, which is known as the cancer belt of the state, he said,” if the Congress comes to power, it would open hospitals in the area. Besides, it will also address the root cause.”
