Samaikyandhra stir may mar festive spirit

Vijayawada: The ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation may hit the Dasara celebrations at Kanakadurga temple here, with most of the people suffering from aftershocks of the Centre’s bifurcation decision.
Employees too, are suffering due to absence of salaries for the past two months and many citizens are likely to opt for low key celebrations.
About five-and-a-half lakh employees from Seemandhra have already lost their two months’ salaries and are facing a tough time ahead of Dasara.
This is despite the fact that bankers have come forward to extend loans, but this is not being implemented in all areas.
Private sector employees too are facing a crisis as several industries are not functioning since the workers are taking part in the stir. This has left the employers unable to even meet the regular expenses.
As per Autonagar cluster development officials, the ongoing strike has left nearly one lakh people facing hardships.
Raja, a shop owner at Besant Road said that traders there were facing a tough situation since the shops were hardly getting any business.
Murali, owner of a footwear showroom at Alankar Centre, said that the absence of public transport was hitting business.
All important centres have been wearing a deserted look due to absence of buses.Â
