Samajwadi Party leader kills cab driver over Rs 300; violence breaks out in Kanpur
Looks like Akhilesh Yadav, the new face of Samajwadi Party and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, will have a tough time fulfilling his 'no goondaraj' promise.
Striking a fresh blow to the party's image, a Samajwadi Party leader reportedly beat a cab driver to death after the latter rejected to pay him Rs 300 as parking fee. The victim is identified as Ankit Yadav and the leader involved is Prashant Tiwari, a local party worker.
The shocking incident took place at Kanpur, Pankhi area.
The brawl began when Yadav parked his cab too close to Tiwari’s hotel. Yadav refused to pay the fee Tiwari demanded. The SP worker then allegedly started beating Yadav with a stick.
Reports claim, the cabbie was rushed to a hospital where he was brought dead. Angry relatives went onto torch Tiwari’s hotel and shops adjacent to it creating chaos.
Police were called in and they resorted to lathicharge to control the mob.
A case of murder has been booked against Tiwari, who is now absconding.
