Saradha fugitives held in Kashmir
The Kashmir police on Tuesday detained fugitive Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen and two of his aides from Sonamarg, a hill resort in Kashmir’s Ganderbal district 87 km northeast of Srinagar.
The three have been lodged at the district police lines at Ganderbal, outside Srinagar, and are likely to be handed over to a Kolkata police team and are expected to arrive here on Wednesday.
Confirming the news, IGP (Kashmir range) Abdul Gani Mir said Saradha Group CMD Sudipta Sen, a director of the chit fund company, Debjani Mukherjee, and a third person, Arvind Singh Chouhan, were detained from a hotel at Sonamarg. “The three have admitted that they are the same persons wanted by the West Bengal police in connection with the (Kolkata) chit fund scam. A police team from Kolkata is likely to arrive here by early Wednesday to confirm the identity of the trio,” Mr Abdul Gani Mir added.
Police sources here said Mr Sen and his associates were arrested from Snowland Hotel on the banks of the Sindh river following information provided by the West Bengal police.
A Scorpio bearing the West Bengal registration WBW2U-6742 was also seized from the place.
