Saudis’ help sought over South terror
India has sought the help of Saudi Arabian intelligence agencies after a major terror module was busted recently in South India. Sources said investigations had revealed a strong Saudi link.
It is suspected the module’s main handler is a Lashkar-e-Tayyaba commander operating out of Saudi Arabia, who has been in constant touch with at least two of those arrested. Intelligence sources are extremely cagey about this Lashkar commander’s identity, saying investigations will be hit if his name is revealed.
The initial breakthrough came from cellphone numbers through which the suspects were in touch with their Saudi handlers, it is learnt. These numbers have been forwarded to the Saudi agencies, who have also been given details of some hawala transactions through which funds were transferred from Saudi Arabia through Kerala.
