To save skin, Debjani may turn approver

Totally disassociating herself from her boss Sudipta Sen, Debjani Mukherjee, one of the Saradha Group’s arrested directors, claimed she was innocent.
In her statement over two pages circulated by her lawyers, she described herself as a “trustworthy employee” and denied having a bank deposit of `30 crore.
Debjani, however, dropped hints of turning approver in the Saradha scam, affirming, “I will hundred per cent assist in the investigation process so that the people of Bengal get justice in whatever means... trust me I will lend my support to the fullest extent to the investigation agencies.”
According to Debjani, she joined Saradha’s Tour and Travels in January 2008 as an executive at Guwahati but became a director with the formation of Saradha Realty India under the group in July same year.
“But when I found my boss started doing business in a different way which is absolutely against my principles I started raising my voice against my boss and he not considering my dedication towards the company sacked me from the post of a director,” she claimed.
Debjani further argued that she met Mr Sen because he “was the source of my bread and butter” and that she was a “loyal employee”.
She reasoned, “Trust me that was the sole reason of my being with Mr Sudipta Sen when he called me at Delhi and though I tried to return twice to Kolkata after meeting him, I could not succeed. This way my journey in this company and I went along with Mr Sudipta Sen and my only sin is what I understood is that I could not leave the captain of a sinking ship.”
About her closeness with Mr Sen, Debjani said, “My boss started depending on me considering my ability and he started to take me with him in most of the business tours. Please consider that I had never any relation with Mr Sudipta Sen other than a sincere trustworthy employee and I never tried to override or cross my limits nor did I had any intention to do so. I had never shared any room with Mr Sen.”
She added, “But to my utmost bad luck people nowadays are gossiping against my chastity... after all these incidents, people are trying to smoke my image which is completely unjustifiable.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
