SC declines fresh plea on `2 kg rice
The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to reopen the Kerala’s `2 kg rice scheme order at this juncture when only seven days are left for the polling in the Assembly polls when the extension of the scheme to all ration card holders was stayed by the court earlier on March 30.
A bench of Justices Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph declined to entertain a fresh petition by CPI(M) activist Rajaji Mathew for making leader of opposition in Kerala assembly Oommen Chandy as party to the case. As Mathew’s counsel stated that almost all political parties had welcomed the scheme and it landed in the controversy only on the complaint of Chandy, the court said, “You are coming to the court after a week of the order passed.”
The bench pointed out that when only seven days were left for the polling what difference it would make at this stage.
