SC gives clean chit to Chidambaram in 2G spectrum case
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy's plea for probe against Finance Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum case.
In an order expected to bring major relief to Chidambaram, the SC bench said no case was made out against the latter.
Further, the bench said no prima facie material was produced to show that Chidambaram got pecuniary benefits out of the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
"There is no material on record to prove that Chidambaram abused his official position," the SC ruling said.
The SC bench pointed out that criminal conspiracy cannot be inferred merely because Chidambaram had met Raja and DoT officials on spectrum pricing.
Moreover, the poor management in allocation of 2G spectrum cannot be said to be product of criminal conspiracy, the apex court said.
