SC to hear pleas of accused in 2G case
The Supreme Court on Thursday decided to entertain the pleas of accused persons in the 2G spectrum allocation case, including Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Telecom Ltd, seeking that the apex court recall its earlier order by which it had prohibited any other court from entertaining any plea concerning the multi-crore scam case.
A bench of justices G.S. Singhvi and K.S. Radhakrishnan issued notice to the CBI on the pleas by RTL, Shahid Balwa, Vinod Goenka, Asif Balwa and Rajiv Agarwal. It also sought a response from Janata Party president Subramanian Sawmy and NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation on whose plea the apex court is monitoring the CBI probe in the muti-crore scam. Advocates appearing for Shahid Balwa and RTL had contended that the order has taken away their Constitutional right to approach the high court as they now have to move the SC directly.
