SC may seek firm Centre commitment
Several legal experts are of the view that the top court might seek a “firm commitment” from the Centre regarding taking steps for ad hoc appointment of retiring judge, Justice D.V. Sharma as a “pre-condition” for deferring the verdict for sometime to save the Ayodhya title suit case from being going back to square. The UPSWB’s affidavit,
filed in response to the September 23 notice of a division bench, which was sharply divided on deferring the verdict, said when the 60 years of the court proceedings had successfully “culminated” in the judgment fixed for pronouncement on September 24, “a last-moment attempt was made to put the clock back and frustrate the entire efforts made by the parties and the court to decide the dispute once for all.”
The board said it could not be said that the HC had not made attempts to “explore” the possibilities of negotiated settlement as it had gone into this aspect in details. “The high court judges minutely analysed the attempts made by the court and the parties to explore the possibility of any out-of-court settlement,” said the affidavit.
