SC: NO STAY ON N-FUEL loading, HEARING SEPT. 20
Giving a green signal to the government to load fuel at the Koodan-kulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu, the Supreme Court on Thursday said it will examine the risks associated with the project and pass appropriate orders to ensure the safety of people living in its vicinity.
After the Centre assured the court that commissioning of the plant will take at least two months, a bench comprising Justices K.S. Radhakrishanan and Deepak Misra decided not to stay the loading of fuel at the controversial nuclear project, marred by protests. The bench said it will go through the rulings of the Madras high court, against which the plea has been filed, and hear the matter at length. It fixed September 20 as the next date of hearing.
