SC notices to KCR, 11 others over Telangana

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to TRS chief K.C. Rao, his MLA son, daughter and filmstar-turned-politician Vijayashanti and eight others on a contempt petition alleging that an agitation related to Telangna supported by lawyers inspired by them had “obstructed” the functioning of the AP HC during September 2010, which

amounted to contempt of court. A bench of Justices J.M. Panchal and H.L. Gokahle issued the notices on the contempt petition filed by former MLA Harish Uppal, (ex-Army captain) in a pending contempt case filed earlier by Adusumilli Jaya Prakash.
Beside Mr Rao, his son K.T.R. Rao, daughter K. Kavitha, who is president of Telangna Jagruthi Samithi and Vijayashanti, the notices were also issued to Madhu Yashki Goud, MP, HC Bar Association president D.P. Reddy, AP Bar Council chairman A. Narasimha Reddy, Etala Rajendra, MLA, TRS party leader N. Narsimha Reddy and advocates Satyam Reddy, Jyoti Kiran and Vinay Kumar Goud and Union of India and Andhra Pradesh government.
The petitioner sought initiation of “contempt proceedings” against these persons for “wilfully committing” the contempt of the court.
According to the petition, a group of advocates had on September 14, 2010 entered the court rooms shouting slogans and threatening judges to stop the court proceedings and consequently the functioning of the court had come to halt.
Further on September 15, 2010, about 200 to 300 advocates lead by the advocate leaders named as respondents, entered the court rooms and “vandalised” the court premises. “One among them also threw chappals on Justices C.V.N. Nagaarjun Reddy and N. Rammohan Rao”, the petitioner said, while linking the TRS leaders also to the incident alleging that the entire agitation was inspired by them.
“It is submitted that the issue with regard to the strike for 42 per cent reservation started on September 13, 2010 in the high court premises, no action was taken by the bar leaders,” the petition said, adding “the advocates and political leaders (mentioned as respondents) are liable to be punished for wilful contempt of court.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
