SC refuses TO GRANT 400 days FOR 2G AUCTION

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the government’s plea for a 400-day extension of the deadline for the auction of cancelled 2G licences but allowed it time till August 31 to complete the exercise of fresh bidding as per the schedule drawn up by the regulator TRAI.
While issuing a stern warning to telecom companies for raking up one issue or the other on the February 2 verdict cancelling 122 licenses for 2G spectrum, allotted by former communications minister A. Raja in “violation” of norms, a bench of Just-ices G.S. Singhvi and K.S. Radhakrishnan said “exemplary cost” would be imposed on parties for wasting the court’s time.

IN-Principle NOD To freeing price of Diesel

The government on Tuesday stated that it has agreed in principle to deregulate diesel prices. Minister of state for finance Namo Narain Meena, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, said on Tuesday that the government is, however, not considering a similar proposal for cooking gas.
The minister said the “government has, in principle, agreed to make the prices of diesel market-determined”.
