SC rejects Jaya plea to defer appearance
After extracting clear assurance from Karnataka chief secretary and DGP on providing adequate security to Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa for her visit to Bengaluru on Thursday for court hearing and record her final statement in
the disproportionate assets case, the Supreme Court rejected her plea for deferring the appearance due to security reasons.
The top court, which on September 12 had directed her to record her final statement by appearing in person, said after examining the affidavits of the state chief secretary and DGP it was “satisfied” about the security arrangements. “We are confident that she will be provided adequate security considering the thereat perception to her,” a bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Dipak Misra said.
