SC seeks C’garh response to set up expert panel
Asking the government to create conducive atmosphere to resolve the Maoist problem, the Supreme Court on Wednesday sought the response of Chhattisgarh to a proposal for setting up an expert committee under former Delhi court Chief Justice A.P. Shah to examine various aspects of the issue.
“Create the proper atmosphere for resolution of the conflict,” a bench of Justices B. Sudershan Reddy and S.S. Nijjar said while seeking the response of the Chhattisgarh government on five specific aspects.
The five aspects spelt out include setting up the expert committee, consider the demand for disbanding salva judum, clear all educational institutions from security forces, rehabilitation of tribals uprooted due to the conflict and registration of FIRs in all the cases of alleged atrocities by salva judum.
Chhattisgarh counsel Manish Singvi was directed to place the state’s response on these points by Thursday so that further hearing on the vital issue could be resumed. As Mr Singhvi pointed out that salva judum was not now in “existence” and only the state has appointed special police officers (SPOs).
