SC stays release of Radia book
The Delhi high court on Wednesday stayed the release and circulation of the book Close Encounters with Niira Radia authored by criminal lawyer R.K. Anand which is based on the life of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia.
While pronouncing the order Justice V.K. Jain said, “The court is staying the release of the book as the matter is sub judice.”
The controversial book, Close Encounters with Niira Radia, has been written by Mr Anand and published by Har Anand Publication. Mr Anand, who once appeared in a court for Air UK Leasing Limited, then represented by Ms Radia, has allegedly bared all details in the book regarding his communications with the lobbyist.
Seeking a stay on the release of the book, Ms Radia had approached the Delhi high court and sought `1 crore as damages alleging Mr Anand and the publisher have allegedly attempted to defame her by revealing “privileged communications” between a lawyer and a client.
Senior criminal lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Ms Radia, argued that the book adversely affects his client’s image.
“Our main plea was invading the privacy and having right to privacy. The book is nothing but full of filth and character assassination,” Mr Rohtagi said.
