Scam-buster cop goes missing

Mayank Chauhan, a 1998batch IPS officer who charged 56 persons including former chief minister Gegong Apang, five Congress MLAs, two ministers, IAS officers and contractors in a Rs 1,000-crore PDS scam, has been mysteriously missing from Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh.
Chauhan, who heads the special investigation cell set up by the Guwahati high court to probe the high-profile PDS scam, went missing from Tippi in West Kameng district around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.
He was travelling to Tawang with his team.
His subordinates reported the matter to the police.
West Kameng superintendent of police T.T. Lama said: “We were told Chauhan was on his way to Tawang with inspector Mohan Kaye and constable Vikram Singh.”
Lama said Chauhan gave one of his mobiles to his driver while leaving the vehicle at Tippi market, asking them to wait near the river, where he would join them for lunch.
“Since then there is no information on his whereabouts,” the SP said.
