Scam-busting IPS officer is missing in N-E
Mayank Chauhan, a 1998-batch IPS officer who charged 56 persons including former CM Gegong Apang, five Congress MLAs, two ministers, IAS officers and contractors in a Rs 1,000-crore PDS scam, is mysteriously missing from Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh.
Mr Chauhan, who heads the special investigation cell set up by the Gauhati high court to probe the PDS scam, went missing from Tippi in West Kameng district around 1.30 pm Tuesday. He was travelling to Tawang with his team.
His subordinates reported the matter to the police. West Kameng SP T.T. Lama said: “We were told Mr Chauhan was on his way to Tawang with inspector Mohan Kaye and constable Vikram Singh.” He said Mr Chauhan gave one of his mobiles to his driver while leaving the vehicle at Tippi market, asking them to wait near the river, where he would join them for lunch. “Since then there is no information on his whereabouts,” the SP said.
