Scared Kalmadi avoids Parliament
Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the CWG organising committee, has not been seen in Parliament after corruption allegations over the Games started escalating.
Mr Kalmadi, who represents Pune in the Lok Sabha, has not been there even to defend himself as his role turns increasingly controversial. The AICC has refused to come to his defence while giving a clean chit to Union ministers M.S. Gill and S. Jaipal Reddy and Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit for their role.
While both the government and the Congress have remained silent about the OC’s role in financial transactions as fresh allegations emerge, a Union minister said it was unlikely that Mr Kalmadi would be removed ahead of the Games.
Asked about Mr Kalmadi’s fate, a Congress source said: “It is for the government to decide... we (Congress) have no role.”
Both Houses will discuss the CWG irregularities in the current session. It will be interesting to see who, if anyone at all, will defend Mr Kalmadi on the floor of the House.
