‘Scared’ staff refuses to wear uniforms
Hundreds of staff from various departments of the AMRI Hospital refused to wear uniforms on duty at the main building of the Dhakuria unit, fearing public wrath, even after 48 hours of the incident. The staff said that they were afraid to carry out their duties as locals were keeping a hawk eye on the hospital. “We do not want to wear the uniform as locals outside are targeting us the moment they are identifying us as staff of the fire-struck building. They think we are responsible for the huge number of casualty,” a young nurse said.
The human resource department which was situated at the annexe building, has now been shifted to the main block. It has been learnt that the hospital authorities had to partially comply with the demands of the technicians and paramedics. “We all fear violence from locals so this uniform has now become a curse for us. You will not find anyone anywhere in the vicinity of the lobby or general outdoor in the hospital uniform,” another staff of the house keeping section said.
Although the displaced paramedics and employees of the annexe building have been given separate duties in the main building, but most of them were found moving around in common dress without work.
