SCs, STs to get four-wheelers in Rajamundry
Rajahmundry: The Entrepreneur Development Programme(EDP) which was to be implemented in the last couple of years, by industries department, is being implemented with slight modifications for the SC, ST beneficiaries in the present financial year.
In the present year of 2013-14, a target of 150 was fixed for these sections, for provision of four-wheelers, under self employment scheme under owner-cum-driver mode.
Under the scheme, the male beneficiary will be provided with 35 percent and the woman beneficiary to the tune of 40 percent subsidy. The beneficiary will have to contribute 10 percent over the cost of the project and in total 110 from SC and the remaining 40 from the ST social sections will be selected under this scheme.
The industries department on their part take care in arranging loans. The beneficiary will have to opt either for lease basis or has to operate the vehicle as tourist cab. With no income limit and age group specified for the beneficiaries, the scheme is attracting attention of the elite, from these social sections, and in total 85 applications were received, by the end of June.
For the applications received till date, the interviews will be conducted by July 5 and the second phase interviews on July 25. It is learnt that as the caste criteria was fulfilled in getting the benefit under this scheme, the authorities made it clear that none was permitted to have more than one transaction in this mode.
The East Godavari district industries centre (DIC) general manager, N. Lakshmana Rao, said on Saturday, that if the target is completed by July, they would seek revision of target by the higher officials.
