Sea killing: Arrested mariner leaves Facebook promise hanging
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am sending you a hug … I will be back in a few hours or perhaps a few days…”, was how Latorre Massimiliano updated his entry (in Italian) on his Facebook page while leaving Colombo port on February 11.
However, Massimiliano could not update his status later, as the ship was immobilized here for the past few days, and he was arrested along with his colleague Salvatore Girone on Sunday for their alleged involvement in the killing of two fishermen off Kollam shore.
Massimiliano hails from Taranto, a coastal city in Italy, which is a major commercial destination and the main naval base of Italy. From the information given on facebook, it is learnt Massimiliano is 45 years old.
The family photo given in the facebook shows he’s the father of three children — two girls and a boy whose names are not given. Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone were part of the six-member team of the Italian Navy who provided security for Enrica Lexie.
The men were deployed for keeping the ship safe from pirates during its journey.
