The second phase of Census 2011 began on Wednesday with enumerators seeking information about the first citizen of the country, President Pratibha Patil.

The decadal exercise, which will cover the entire country, began by collecting information on a "number of characteristics about the President's personal household" by enumerator Rita, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said.

"It is the second largest census in the world and I wish the registrar-general and his team a grand success," he said.

Ansari said this Census will determine the socio-economic health of the country in next decade.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
