Security beefed up for polls
Anantapur: Security has been beefed up at all sensitive parts of Dharmavaram division in the Anantapur district following the second phase of gram panchayat elections on Saturday.
As many as 10,000 security personnel of BSF, CRPF, Reserve police from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been deployed to cover 249 GPs of Dharmavaram division.
SP S. Syamasundar said additional security was posted at faction-hit and hyper-sensitive villages to prevent untoward incidents on the day of polling.
“Separate security parties have been deputed to each hyper-sensitive village in addition to mobile forces to cover nearly 6 villages in each route,” said the SP.
Responding to deployment of huge number of additional forces in the wake of Congress core committee meeting and united statehood agitation was rocking across the Seemandhra region, police sources denied that additional forces being used only to cover sensitive villages in the polling like Dhrmavaram, CK Palli, Kangnipalli and Ramagiri mandals.
Similarly, Kalyandurg Assembly segment had become sensitive where revenue minister N. Raghuveera Reddy was representing from the area.
In Kurnool, SP K. Raghurami Reddy issued notices to three Congress leaders for touring in other than their gram panchayats, as part of measure to curb violence.
Kadapa SP Maneeshkumar Sinha has said that more than 4,500 security personnel deputed at the hyper-sensitive and sensitive villages in the district. Polls will be held at Badvel, Proddutur and Rajampeta areas in the Kadapa district on Saturday.
Raghurami Reddy directed the leaders to stay at their own villages till completion of gram panchayat elections on Saturday. Police concentrated on faction hit villages to curb violence during polls in the wake of clashes between two groups at Kothapalli village in Nandyal mandal in Kurnool district four days ago.

Police arrested Venkatasubbaiah, a sarpanch candidate from Tiruvengalapuram village in Badvel mandal and seized Rs 27,000 while distributing for voters.
