Security tightened in Valley
Police and CRPF reinforcements have fanned out in Srinagar and all other major towns of the Valley in anticipation of disturbances spreading after another youth was killed when the police fired rubber bullets to quell an irate crowd in Sopore on Sunday.
Both factions of the separatist Hurriyat Conference alliance have asked the people to march to Sopore on Monday.
The authorities have indicated that strict security restrictions under CrPC Section 144 will be imposed across the Valley, particularly in Srinagar, Baramulla and other major towns, to prevent the people from marching to Sopore. “We are taking preventive measures that may include restrictions on people’s movements in order to prevent any loss of human life or damage to public property,” said a senior police official.
The authorities have, as a precautionary measure, closed all schools and colleges for two days from Monday and also university exams and other exams have been postponed.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has already ordered a judicial probe into the June 25 CRPF firing on protesters in Sopore.
