Seek votes in NDA name, not Nitish: BJP
In a bid to give a tit-for-tat treatment to Bihar chief minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, the BJP has decided not to take his name during campaigning during the state Assembly elections.
The party has asked its leaders to restrict their speech by asking votes only in the name of the ruling NDA of which it is a part.
Meanwhile, the BJP is likely to release its election manifesto on Tuesday. Both the NDA partners are fighting the Assembly polls on development issues undertaken during the current NDA government in the state. A majority section within the BJP is of the view that there are too many pre-conditions set by Mr Nitish Kumar for it to campaign in the state.
Sources said Bihar chief minister is unwilling to share the dais with senior BJP leaders during campaigning and is also averse to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi campaigning in the state. Both the alliance partners are yet to announce dates for joint campaigning by their senior leaders.
A senior BJP leader said the party cadre has been asked that if at all they have to name Mr Kumar, it should be followed by deputy chief minister and BJP leader Sushil Modi’s name.
It could be mentioned here that the BJP’s state unit had often complained to the party high command that its their alliance partner JD(U) which gets all the credit in the state.
“There are so many pre-conditions by Nitish Kumar for us that its seems that its only JD(U) which is contesting while we are playing a second fiddle,” said the senior party leader.
After the Ayodhya title suit verdict, the JD(U) had asked the BJP to refrain from highlighting the issue in the poll-bound state, fearing it might harm its electoral prospects.
