Seemandhra on the boil
Hyderabad: The ongoing agitation in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions is expected to intensify from Tuesday with 4.5 lakh state employees going on an indefinite strike.
Despite an appeal by the state government to defer the strike after the Congress Central leadership appointed the A.K. Antony committee to look into the grievances of the regions, the employees’ organisations have decided to proceed with the strike.
“There is no change in our earlier decision to go on an indefinite strike. The MPs and ministers didn’t respond to our ultimatum to quit their posts,” said AP Non-Gazetted Officers Association president Ashok Babu.
The agitation against the state’s division had slowed down in the coastal districts and Rayalaseema during the month of Ramzan, but has picked up now. Social and political organisations participating in the agitations are hoping that the employees’ strike will be the game changer.
