Self-complacency behind CPI(M) rout in WB: Karat
Admitting that , CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday asked party workers to change and reorganise themselves in the coming years.
"Self-complacency and loss of mass contact are found to be the main causes of the party's failure and it is time that strong steps are taken against the wrong notions pursued in our party in the state to reorganise ourselves," Karat said in a statement at the end of the CPI(M) state committee meeting here.
Karat, who attended the two-day session which reviewed the party's rout in the Assembly election besides political, administrative and organisational factors, said efforts should be made to "change according to requirements" and move along to reorganise the party in the state.
"We have to take strong steps against wrong notions in our party at the time when we are under attack (allegedly under the Trinamool Congress rule) and regain confidence of the people," he said.
Advising party workers to realise the changes in economic and social arena and alter their mode of functioning, Karat called for re-establishing deep mass contact which the party had enjoyed since 1977 and try to regain people's confidence in the state.
Speaking in the same vein, CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose also called for strengthening the party block level upwards.
He attributed the party's loss to several factors including failure to fulfil people's aspirations, wrong notions and wrong political calculations.
He alleged that the Trinamool and its allies had succeeded in misleading the masses against the LF taking advantage of the situation with their "violent activities." He called for mass struggle to resist "Trinamool's armed attacks against CPI(M) activists."
"Despite our defeat, it is true that LF polled 41.05 per cent votes in the last Assembly election," he said.
