Sena wants Phalke Award for Sulochana
The Shiv Sena on Thursday urged President Pratibha Patil to consider the noted film artiste Sulochana for the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest national honours in the field of Indian film industry. Shiv Sena MP Bharatkumar Raut requested the President to consider Ms Sulochana for the highest award. She will be turning 82 on Friday.
“It is thus high time that the Indian government takes due cognisance of her contribution to Indian cinema in particular and Indian society in general and confer the Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year on her,” Mr Raut said in a letter to the President. He said Shiv Sena chief Bal Thakceray has also written a letter to the President with this request. He said it is needless to introduce Ms Sulochana, affectionately known as Sulochana Didi, as her image of loving Indian mother is registered every Indian mind for over six long decades. She has so far acted in over 400 films in Hindi, Marathi and many other Indian regional languages. Her roles in classical Hindi films, such as Sujata, Reshma Aur Shera, Aadmi, Saraswati Chandra, Kora Kagaz and many others, still linger in the minds of Indian filmgoers, he said.
