Senior cops’ Naxal link under scanner

Some senior officials of the Chhattisgarh police are now under the scanner of the Central intelligence agencies for allegedly having a “soft corner” towards the Left-wing ultras in the state.
Sources said the activities of some of the high-ranking officials of the state police were being monitored by the Central agencies. There are reports that they are allegedly in touch with Maoists in the state and are also providing support to them, sources added.
“It is being scrutinised whether co-ordination problem between the state and the Central forces — which was evident in the Dantewada massacre in which 76 CRPF personnel were killed on April 6 — was deliberate or was it a simple coordination problem,” sources added. Immediately after the incident, the activities of certain state police officials was put on surveillance, sources added. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that the certain police officials were in constant touch with the intellectuals having soft corner towards the Maoists, sources added. They added that some of them were in touch with intellectuals having ultra-left leanings in certain universities of the country.
Besides, the Central agencies are also investigating the seizure of a container in Delhi a few days ago, in which a large number of live and arms and ammunitions were recovered, sources said. It is being investigated whether the consignment was meant for Naxals or not. Sources added that there were reports it could have been smuggled for the Naxals, sources added. The consignment has come from the US, sources added.
Central agencies are also investigating the reports of the possible links of Naxals with Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Tayyaba. Available inputs suggest that the LeT was providing financial as well as logistical support to the Maoists.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
