Separate facts & fiction: Sonia
Daring the BJP to a debate in Parliament over the coal block allocation issue that would separate “facts” from “fiction”, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the main Opposition party for stalling Parliament for the seventh consecutive day.
While addressing a huge gathering in Barmer, Rajasthan, Mrs Gandhi made it clear that the Opposition’s wishes would not be fulfilled through its tactics and dared it to a debate.
Without naming the BJP, she said some people were politicising every issue. This was not helping the country which was facing several serious challenges like inflation, drought, floods and social tensions besides bearing the brunt of a global economic slowdown, she said.
Mrs Gandhi challenged the BJP for a debate to find out the truth stating, “Sansad aur Loktantra ki garima ka dhyan rakthe hue karvahi me hissa le, doodh ka doodh pani ka pani ho jayega.”
“Do we want to destroy this democratic system, which our ancestors, our freedom fighters have gifted us after sacrificing their lives? Will this help the country? The solutions to the problems and the issues we are facing today can only be found through discussion in Parliament,” Mrs Gandhi said while inaugurating a drinking water project here.
The BJP has been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the CAG report on coal block allocation. “If someone thinks that everything should happen according to their wishes or nothing should happen at all, then this cannot happen in a democracy,” Mrs Gandhi added.
The UPA chairperson also visited the localities in Jaipur that were devastated by recent heavy rains.
