Setalvad submits phone details to panel

An NGO, headed by social activist Teesta Setalvad, on Friday submitted documents containing phone records of Gujarat chief minister’s office and police control room during 2002 riots to Nanavati Commission, which is probing the communal violence.

In its application to the commission, Ms Setalvad, who heads the Mumbai-based Citizen for Justice and Peace (CJP), has claimed that they have submitted crucial documentary evidence like phone call records analysis, locational graphs, police control room records analysis.
She has also urged the commission to summon some top officials of the Gujarat police like then Ahmedabad city commissioner P.C. Pande, joint commissioner of police P.M.K. Tondon, additional commissioner of police Shivanand Jha among others.
Ms Setalvad has also requested the commission to call for questioning of nine officials of chief minister Narendra Modi’s office, including his two personal assistants O.P. Singh, Tanmay Mehta and OSD Sanjay Bhavsar. The commission has already collected huge amount of data on phone call records over eight years of probe. Ms Setalvad said the purpose of submitting these records now was not to duplicate the previous data, but to bring forward certain aspects of the investigation which could be missing.
According to Ms Setalvad, the data submitted includes individual graphs of phone calls made and received by 44 persons, including nine persons from the chief minister’s office (CMO).
The analysis of the phone call records submitted by Ms Setalvad claims that some Cabinet ministers at that time had called VHP leader Jaydeep Patel and former minister Maya Kodnani, who are accused in the riot cases. —PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
