Seven drown in Cauvery, search on for two missing

A search operation is on for two persons who went missing after being swept away by water released from a barrage into Cauvery River in the district, even as officials retrieved one more body, taking the death toll to seven.

The body of Suresh Kumar (15) was fished out on Wednesday and has been identified by his father, police said. A search is on to find Suresh's friend Asif, with whom he had gone swimming near Vendipalayam Bhavani Kattalai Barrage II on January 8.

Police said that out of the seven other persons who were washed away, the bodies of six have been recovered and a search is on for the body of a 40-year-old woman.
