Lucknow: A seven-year-old boy’s narration of the sequence of events that led to his father’s death has helped the police work out the murder of a theatre artiste.
“Uncle papa ko maar rahe the aur mummy ne papa ko pakad kar rakha tha (mummy held my dad and uncle was beating him up),” the seven-year-old told the police.
Taking it as a clue, the police took the cell phone of his mother Pinky on surveillance and soon things began to fall in place.
It may be recalled that Jagdish Verma, a theatre artist was found dead in his house in Ghazipur on August 5. A blood stained cricket bat was found near the body.
Pinky had told the police two persons had come to meet her husband late in the night and that she and her son went to sleep soon after.
The woman told police that when she woke up later in then night, she found her husband lying in a poll of blood.
A case was lodged with Ghazipur police station in connection with the incident on the complaint of Pinky.
However, a cop cracked the case during a conversation the boy. The surveillance of Pinky's cell phone revealed that, she had an affair with Vinod from Pilibhit and the duo conspired to eliminate Jagdish from their way.

Sitapur (UP): A youth allegedly raped and murdered an eight-year-old girl here in Rasoolpur locality, police said on Sunday.
The girl was raped by one Dileep (23) yesterday when she was outside her house in the locality, they said.
The accused slit the throat of the girl before surrendering to police. A probe is on in the matter and police have sent the body of the victim for postmortem.

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old man was found murdered at Shapur in Shamshabad rural in the early hours of Saturday.
There were stab injuries on his stomach, back and other parts of the body. The body was found abandoned in the bushes at an isolated place in Shapur.
According to officials at the Shamshabad police station, locals found a body with blood all over and informed the police. The cops, who reached the spot, shifted the body to the hospital and registered a murder case.

Hyderabad: A quality supervisor at L&T Metro Rail ended his life at Dundigal on Saturday.
A. Praveen Kumar Reddy, 22, hanged himself at his house at Ankitha Towers in Bachupally. His relatives said that he was depressed for the past few days due to a love failure. However, cops did not find any suicide note from the spot.
The incident came to light when neighbour Sreedhar Reddy called him in the morning and found him hanging inside the house. “The door was locked from inside, and his family members broke open the door,” SI Vidhyasagar Reddy said.
The brother of the deceased Venkatakrishna Reddy also said that Praveen was depressed. Police said that Praveen, who is from Vempalli mandal in Kadapa district, had been staying in Hyderabad for the past eight months and was working in the Metro Rail project.

Nellore: A 42-year-old woman was hacked to death following a property dispute at Gundubavi Street near Jendachettu Centre at Kavali on Saturday morning. Incidentally the 42-year-old victim, Eluri Chinna
Kondamma, and accused Rajyalakshmi are close relatives. According to information, Rajyalakshmi, lynched Kondamma with a sickle following a heated argument over rights on a house.
On being informed by locals, One Town sub-inspector Anjibabu rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to the hospital in 108 ambulance.
However, she died while undergoing treatment. Police took the accused into custody and summoned her husband Chenchu Prasad for questioning. A case has been registered.

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman was found murdered and her body was thrown into the Fatehnagar lake at Sanatnagar. The victim’s legs were tied up and the body was seen floating in the lake on Saturday morning.
The cops are checking if the woman was raped before she was murdered. The victim’s identity is yet to be confirmed. Police suspect the woman was strangled to death and her body was dumped in the lake.
Sanatnagar inspector C. Harishchandra Reddy said that there was a tattoo on the victim’s right hand. “The tattoo says, “M. Yadgiri, Vaddepalli village.” However, we could not identify the woman as no other clues are available,” he said.
The locals, who found the body after a foul smell spread in the area informed the police. A team from Sanatnagar police fished out the body with the help of swimmers and shifted it to the mortuary.
“The victim was wearing a sari. The body must have been dumped a couple of days ago,” said the inspector. The only injury on her body was a strangulation mark. Sanatnagar police has booked a case under Section 302 of IPC for murder.

Chennai: Police have rescued a minor girl from a prostitution racket with the arrest of her mother and a godman to whom she had sent the girl to secure divine help for improving her studies after the 14-year-old failed in her seventh class in a Chennai school. The mother had aided in the ‘siddhar’ repeatedly raping the girl.
The girl’s trauma began about six months ago when her mother, who worked as a maid servant at Perambur, took her to a god man named Aravazhi Siddhar near her place and pleaded for help to improve her studies. The woman also allegedly aided in the god man raping the poor girl.
Subsequently, a watch-mechanic called Kumar of Walltax Road befriended the girl and sold her to a flesh trader Selvam, who forced her into prostitution with the help of two other women near the Central railway station. Another group of six men took the girl to Marina beach and raped her, police said.
The girl escaped from Selvam and fled to Tirupati, where the child helpline rescued her and alerted the TN police. Upon direction from the DGP, the crime branch CID police investigated the girl’s pathetic story and arrested the god man and her mother on Saturday.
The two were produced before fourth metropolitan magistrate R. Shankar at Saidapet and remanded to custody. “We are searching for the eight others involved in the heinous crimes against the girl”, a police officer said.

Alappuzha: The police on Friday arrested a 50-year-old man for molesting a class X student at Kurathikad here.
The accused, Karthikeyan, Puthantharayil, Thazhakara, near Mavelikara, a machine operator at a match box manufacturing company at Kurathikad, sexually abused the girl several times during the last six months. He had come into contact with her through her mother, a labourer at the match box company.
As per the complaint lodged by the victim and her parents, Karthikeyan molested her by threatening that her sister and father would be murdered if she revealed the matter to anyone.
The victim was often found talking through mobile phone till late at night. The parents and relatives questioned her on suspicion which led to the revelation.

Guntur: Sattenapalli police on Saturday arrested three persons, including an aeronautical engineer and two of his accomplices, who are suspects in two cases of explosions using Improvi-sed Explosive Devices (IED) in the mandal.
According to police, the three-member gang made an unsuccessful attempt to extort money from the villagers by triggering two explosions in Gudipudi village of Sattenapalli mandal, creating panic among the villagers.
Police said the prime accused Vuddagiri Siva Ramakrishna studied aeronautical engineering and started a dairy plant in Gudipudi village. Following heavy losses in the business, Ramakrishna planned to extort money from the locals by threatening them with explosions using the IEDs made with his technical knowledge.

Kochi: The special branch police on Saturday arrested a man while attempting to mine sand illegally from a ghat near Kumbalam Choice Resorts. The arrested was identified as Sinaj (29) of Poochakkal in Cherthala.
The police also seized the sand which was being mined, equipments used for the mining and the boat on which the sand was being transported.
In another incident, the special branch stopped a gang from mining sand from Kothad Bridge near Chittoor, but the miners escaped. The cops seized five loads of sand from there.
