Sex abuse: School headmaster surrenders in court
A school headmaster, who was charged with sexually harassing 97 girl students, on Tuesday surrendered before a local court which remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.
The Madras High court bench here had rejected headmaster Arockiaswamy's anticipatory bail earlier last week.
The All India Democratic Women's Association and various organisations had been demanding the Pothumbu Government High School headmaster's arrest and staging protests.
CPIM politburo member Brinda Karat had visited the village recently and demanded his arrest.
An investigation officer was transferred two days ago following complaints that she was trying to divert the issue and threatening the victims and parents, police said.
Judicial Magistrate II S.Umamaheswari remanded Arockiaswamy to 15 days judicial custody.
