Shah Rukh: I did nothing illegal

Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has attracted fresh controversy over an alleged skirmish with security guards following his team’s victory over the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.
The Mumbai Cricket Association officials have lodged a formal police complaint and will meet on Friday to discuss what action is to be taken against the Bollywood actor.
Both parties have accused each other of misbehaviour that provoked the spat, with Khan claiming that MCA officials manhandled a few children, including his own, who had entered the field after the match. “I said a few things in anger. I was one and they were 20-25 officials and they were extremely rude. When I tried to answer them, they hid behind others,” the actor said, adding, “There was nothing illegal, I was not on the pitch. I know the rules.”
The MCA alleged that the actor was in an inebriated state and tried to force his way onto the ground after the match and when he was prevented from doing so, he got abusive and pushed the security personnel. An MCA member, who also happened to be an assistant commissioner of police, said Khan smelled of alcohol. “He continuously used foul, filthy language towards officials who tried to pacify him,” MCA treasurer Ravi Savant said on Thursday. Mr Savant said the MCA would put the proposed lifetime ban on paper at the managing committee meeting on Thursday and get all formalities completed, with a majority support with the MCA.
However, IPL governing council chairman Rajiv Shukla did not corroborate Mr Savant’s statement about life ban. “How can you ban a franchise owner? The MCA officials are just angry right now. It will all be sorted out. Let this thing cool down,” Mr Shukla told this newspaper.
Khan categorically denied that he had misbehaved or was drunk, but said he was reacting to the “obnoxious” and “unpardonable” behaviour of officials at the stadium.
The Marine Drive police has registered a non-cognisable complaint against Khan and three others. “Khan and three others have been booked under Sections 323 and 504 of the IPC,” said DCP Nisar Tamboli, Mumbai police spokesperson.
