Sharad aide files papers for RS from Bihar

In the face of stiff opposition from an influential section in the JD(U) close to Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, party president Sharad Yadav finally managed to get his long-time associate and socialist leader K.C. Tyagi nominated for the Rajya Sabha on Saturday.

The lone Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar lying vacant following the resignation of Upendra Kushwaha last month had seen several JD(U) leaders close to Mr Kumar lobbying hard for over a week. The final decision to nominate the Delhi-based Mr Tyagi, who filed his nomination papers on Saturday, was taken following Mr Yadav’s insistence.
and under circumstances that JD(U) leaders close to Mr Kumar reportedly found constricting.
Mr Tyagi, a former parliamentarian from UP known as a farmers’ leader, had been denied an RS nomination on several opportunities in the past despite his mentor’s efforts because, according to JD(U) sources, the Bihar chief minister personally picked the nominees.
